This page is devoted to eating establishments in the United States where members have eaten and feel are worth the return trip either because of the uniqueness of the place or because the food was just plain outstanding!

Side Note:  In the name of pure research we have decided to sacrifice ourselves by indulging in the culinary arts!  Let the feasting begin!

Miss Mary Bobo's (submitted by Dan & Evie Felts)
Lynchburg, Tennessee

In addition to taking a tour of the Jack Daniel's distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee, eating at Miss Mary Bobo's is a must!  Home-style cooking is served sit-down style in individual dining rooms in this southern-style home.  You will share your table with other guests and eat some of the finest southern cooking you've ever had!  Reservations are a must and it is recommended they be made several months in advance as people come to Miss Mary Bobo's from all over the world to eat.  To read more about Miss Mary Bobo's, the following link is included.

Note: When I last called a few months ago, Miss Mary Bobo's was under renovation and moved temporarily into the Jack Daniel's distillery.  We recommend waiting until after renovation as eating in the home is part of the charm and experience.

Mudd Valley Creamery (submitted by Dan and Evie Felts)
Walnut Creek, Ohio

Would you like to try some of the best ice cream around in mammoth proportions and incredibly cheap?!! No joke, the kiddie size cone is the size of a big adult cone.  Dan and I have been getting their banana split the past several times we've been there and it's so huge that it takes both of us to eat it.  (In reality, I can really eat the entire thing myself but he makes me share!)  In addition to ice cream, there is a general store with a large variety of lunch meats, cheese, specialty items and also a gift shop.  Parking is ample but if you're facing the building, beware of the parking lot to the left - it's gravel.  The front and right lots are paved.

Mudd Valley Creamery is located in Walnut Creek which is about 4-1/2 miles East of Berlin, Ohio on Route 39.  For you GPS geeks, the coordinates are:  N40° — W081°

For $3.99, the (mammoth) banana split is two thumbs up and for the best experience you must have it made with three different flavors of Hershey's ice cream.  If you have it made with boring vanilla, it just won't be the same!

Steve's Dakota Grill (submitted by Dan and Evie Felts)
Medina, Ohio

We know we're not the first of our members who have eaten here but we'll be the first to review it.

There are four Steve's Dakota Grill's in Ohio.  They're located in Medina, Findlay, Marion and Ontario.  The style of decor is northwestern lodge and has a natural stone fireplace, game trophies hanging on the walls and natural wood throughout.  Their specialty is prime rib which is slow-cooked on a rotisserie with a hint of rosemary and is absolutely delicious!  Combined with the salad, homemade garlic mashed potatoes, fresh, hot rolls with walnut butter, we couldn't have asked for a better meal served by a friendly waitress in a timely manner.  For $14.99 we give it a two thumbs up!

Now the dessert!  When you order Steve's Tower Cake they warn you that one serving is enough for two people and you will be taking some home.  You have two choices.  Carrot cake or chocolate.  We chose the carrot cake which was served on a platter.  This far surpassed any carrot cake we have ever had.  We did end up taking half of it home.  For $6.99 we give it a two thumbs up!

The service was fast and friendly but an extra special touch that evening was that the owner, Steve, was on hand making sure we were taken care of.  (Since this was our first trip to Steve's in Medina, we're not sure if this is a normal occurrence.)
