This page is devoted to eating
establishments in the United States where members have eaten and feel are
worth the return trip either because of the uniqueness of the place or because the food was just
plain outstanding!

Side Note: In the name of pure research we have
decided to sacrifice ourselves by indulging in the culinary
arts! Let the feasting begin!

Henrey
Wahner's
(submitted by Evie)
Kent, Ohio
Don't
expect to see anything fancy on the inside or outside of
Henrey Wahner's, but the food is fabulous (my favorite
is the Seafood Platter and the Yaeger potatoes!).
Portions are mammoth! I watched as the wait staff served
steaks and prime rib to other tables and it looked like
something out of the Flintstones! HUGE!
Authentic German food too.

Hotel
Millersburg Tavern
(submitted by Gary & Betty)
Millersburg, Ohio
Knowing
that I really needed a cheese fix, Gary decided we
needed to make a quick trip to Amish country in the
middle of January. It was the Saturday that northern
Ohio received about 8 inches of snow. There was no snow
coming down while we drove to Charm with the plan to
stop at Guggisburg for cheese and then to hop across the
street to Chalet in the Valley for a late lunch. We
were dismayed to learn that Chalet was closed for
remodeling but we remembered Grandma’s Homestead is
right down the road so we headed there. We were even
MORE shocked and dismayed to find that Grandma’s was
ALSO closed for remodelin. Well, it is their ‘off’
season so we understand but we were now really hungry.
We got out our trusty Garmin 2610 and punched up some
food and drink places. Closest one that looked good was
in Millersburg at “Hotel Millersburg Tavern”. Why not?
What would be bad about a good Tavern burger, we
thought! We were pleasantly surprised to find out this
tavern is no ordinary tavern. It is really a functioning
hotel and full-service restaurant. I’m not saying that
the burgers wouldn’t be good—I’m sure they would—but we
had to try something from their menu. Gary chose the
Mushroom Pork Chops while I selected Mushroom Chicken.
Both are listed as flambéed in a sherry and cream
sauce. The pork chops are center-cut and could be cut
with your fork. The chicken was just as tender and
delicious!! We both chose the soup du jour instead of
the salad (bad, I know). It was Cheeseburger Soup and
it was superb. I can imagine sitting by a window,
watching the snow come down and eating a bowl of this
soup. It is definitely on my list of comfort foods.
Needless to say, we were stuffed and the bill was very
reasonable. This is on our list of places that we must
visit again!
They also
have Dinner Theatre presentations every 3 months. The
rooms as VERY reasonable and it was recently remodeled
by the new owners. Heck, I’ve always wanted to spend
the night in Amish country to make sure I got a full day
of shopping

Mudd
Valley Creamery (submitted by Evie)
Walnut Creek, Ohio
Would
you like to try some of the best ice cream around in mammoth
proportions and incredibly cheap?!! No joke, the kiddie size
cone is the size of a big adult cone. Their banana
splits are huge! In addition to
ice cream, there is a general store with a large variety of lunch meats,
cheese, specialty items and also a gift shop. Parking is
ample but if you're facing the building, beware of the
parking lot to the left - it's gravel. The front and
right lots are paved.
Mudd Valley
Creamery is located in Walnut Creek which is about 4-1/2
miles East of Berlin, Ohio on Route 39. For you GPS
geeks, the coordinates are: N40° — W081°
The (mammoth) banana split is two thumbs up
and for the best experience you must have it made with three
different flavors of Hershey's ice cream. If you have
it made with boring vanilla, it just won't be the same!

Steve's Dakota
Grill (submitted by Evie)
Medina, Ohio

We know we're not
the first of our members who have eaten here but we'll be the
first to review it.
There are four
Steve's Dakota Grill's in Ohio. They're located in Medina,
Findlay, Marion and Ontario. The style of decor is
northwestern lodge and has a natural stone fireplace, game
trophies hanging on the walls and natural wood throughout.
Their specialty is prime rib which is slow-cooked on a
rotisserie with a hint of rosemary and is absolutely delicious!
Combined with the salad, homemade garlic mashed potatoes, fresh,
hot rolls with walnut butter, we couldn't have asked for a
better meal served by a friendly waitress in a timely manner.
For $14.99 we give it a two thumbs up!
Now the dessert!
When you order Steve's Tower Cake they warn you that one serving
is enough for two people and you will be taking some home.
You have two choices. Carrot cake or chocolate. The
carrot cake was to die for!
The service was
fast and friendly but an extra special touch that evening was
that the owner, Steve, was on hand making sure we were taken
care of. (Since this was our first trip to Steve's in
Medina, we're not sure if this is a normal occurrence.)
